Face to Face Ministries uses the Relational-Transformational Counseling Theory developed by my first long term client, and subsequent friend, Lisa Kelbaugh, in 2007. Lisa is currently studying to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Counseling through Liberty Bible College. I thank the Lord for using her to put into written theory what I knew the Lord had called me to but somehow couldn't explain.
The Relational Transformational Counseling Method is established upon Jesus Christ’s command to “love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself” Luke 10: 27. This specific verse addresses the individuals whole being, not just a specific part of one’s personality and livelihood.
The Relational Transformation theory is a model in which the therapist is a fellow traveler who steps alongside the client, prayerfully and relationally bearing his or her burdens when they get too heavy. This provides an environment conducive to an open, Biblically appropriate, relationship. It is through this non-traditional therapeutic relationship that the Holy Spirit can work quickly and deeply in the lives of those who participate. Through R-T Therapy, clients learn to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. Clients also learn to love their neighbors as themselves. In keeping these commandments and learning to worship the Lord with their whole lives, clients (as well as therapist) are able to experience a more lasting transformation, freedom and relationship with God Himself.
